I love doing surprises! Over the past few years, we have managed to pull off a couple of great ones for mom and dad and this past weekend we were victorious again!
It all started when Josh did a google search and found the missionary that introduced mom to the church over 30 years ago. He lives just five minutes from me! Josh gave him a call and with the help of his wife made arrangements for our families to get together for dinner. Now, the trick was to get mom to Salt Lake without her expecting anything suspicious. Hum. . .Steven's girlfriend to the rescue! Everyone had met Lindsay (who is living in Nebraska) but mom and Josh's family. She was already planning on coming to visit that weekend so Dad made up the excuse that he and mom needed to come to Salt Lake so she could meet Lindsay. Brilliant! Not really an excuse though. We really did want her to meet Lindsay.
Since Josh was the instigator of this surprise, Dad wanted him to be here. On Saturday morning, Josh hopped on a plane in Virginia and by noon he was walking through the door to surprise mom. She was actually talking with him on her way to the airport and told him how sad she was that the family was getting together this weekend and he wasn't going to be there. She was working on the computer when he came through the door and said, "Hey there!" It took her a minute but then she realized who it was and started crying. It was a sweet moment! (We missed you Britt, Teeg, and Camdyn!) First surprise - big success!
We anxiously waited Saturday afternoon away. Just before six, we loaded everyone into the Suburban to try out a great new mexican restaurant. I pretended to be lost so the Law family could arrive before we did and be waiting. When the hostess showed us to our table, mom said there must be a mistake because she didn't know these people. Elder Law asked her if she remembered him and she said she didn't. Then he told her to think back 35 years. And it hit her immediately who he was. Second surprise - another big success!
It was so fun to get to visit with their family and hear the story from both of them on how they met and mom's conversion to the church. We are all so grateful to Elder Law that he sat in front of mom on the bus and that mom took after Grandmommy and couldn't resist striking up a conversation with him!
It was so great to have a full house of excitement for a few days.
We'll miss everyone!

This was one of the best surprises EVER! (Though, the wedding anniversary in Island Park was amazing too.) Not in a million years would I ever have imagined my kids contacting Elder Law. It was a wonderful evening reuniting with a dear old friend who has always meant so much to me and ultimately, my family's lives. We talked and laughed through a spicy dinner; the kids hearing a few stories they actually hadn't heard from me before. My conversion story has been told many times, and still makes me cry, as the spirit always touches me testifying of the truth. I will always be indebted to Elder Law and thankful to my family for bringing us back together again. I am richly blessed with amazing children and a loving husband. Love you forever!
