Koins for Kenya

 Last December, the Guest and Skonnard families in our neighborhood participated in a project to raise money for a school in Kenya.  The invited all of us to donate and be a part of the experience.  Ella was so excited about it.  We looked at the website and talked about how blessed we are to live where we do and how blessed she is to be able to go to school each day.  They told us that it would cost $25 for each desk in the classroom.  Ella could not wait to dump out her piggy bank to see how much money she had.  She counted as quickly as possible and was thrilled when she had enough to pay for one of the desks.  She put it in an envelope, wrote what it was for, and off we went to deliver it.  It was fun for us to see the interest she took in helping others. 

 This summer, the Guests and Skonnards were able to visit Kenya and help with the final stages of the school.  They wanted to do something to help brighten up the rooms and so they asked all of the children in the neighborhood to submit some artwork to display on the walls.  Above is a picture of Ella's artwork (center with the black background) on the wall of the classroom.  In return, they brought back a piece of artwork by each of the children attending the school to share with our kids.  Ella could not wait to show us hers after primary (below).  Her school also participated in raising money for a well and other items for the village.  It was so good for Ella to learn about the culture there and to see how happy these kids were.
