Yep! That's right. Yours truly traded in my mommy title and comfy sweats for a patient title and ugly gown. I started having these horrible abdominal pains at the beginning of the previous week. At first I thought I just ate something that didn't agree with me. Trying not to be a sissy, I just grit my teeth and hoped it would pass. It did for a few days but came back with a vengance on Monday. I knew that something was up and Scott took me to the ER. A few hours later, I was checking in for an undetermined stay. Scott's face was priceless when the ER doc announced that I would not be going home. "What?", he said. "Who is going to take care of my kids?" After a brief confused look, she answered, "Why you are!" DUH! The days that followed were crazy! It doesn't matter where you are, you really don't ever lose the mommy title. I quickly came up with a list of people and phone numbers so Scott could get some help with the kids while he was at work. And then there were the issues of dance practice and carpool, homework and special school projects. And the boys and their schedule - what to feed them, when to put them down for a nap and what to do when they won't stop crying. I was pretty worried. But I have to admit, Scott did really well. And fortunately, we were surrounded by so many wonderful friends that filled in all the gaps.
For me, I was going nuts. Everyone kept saying, "Oh, what a nice vacation for you." Really?! What kinds of vacations do these people go on? Mine usually involve sun, sand, eating what I want, not being woken up multiple times a night to check my pulse and blood pressure, and fabulous clothes. When is someone going to commission Vera Wang to design a hospital gown line? I passed the hours watching Lost and reading Mockingjay and was lucky to have lots of company come and visit.
But I'm glad to be home now. They discovered that my bowel wall was lined with air, making it extremely fragile. They are not sure the cause. More tests to follow. But, for now, they are treating it with antibiotics and I get to eat a yummy liquid diet until further notice. Hopefully all will be healed soon and life will be back to normal.
