It has actually been a few years since we took a trip to the zoo. I think Ella was 3 on our last visit and it was a little traumatic. It was a super hot day and Ella was a bit on the grumpy side. We happily attempted it again - 4 adults to 3 kids - and on a much cooler day. And we had a great time.

The boys shared a double stroller where they sat next to each other instead of one in front and one in back. They weren't sure what to think at first. They definitely like their own space. They also have to be moving at all times. As soon as the stroller would stop, they would start to panic and the stroller driver (Papa, for most of the trip) would have to start making circles. When we were brave enough to let them out, two of us were on a dead run. Steven and Cade developed their own fun little chase game. It is much easier to be a mom of three kiddos when three more grown-ups are along. I wish they could all move in with me!

Part way through the day, we came across an exhibit where you could buy bird seed sticks to feed the birds. Ella didn't know whether to be excited or scared at first. She liked the idea of feeding them but there were a lot of birds flying around and she was pretty nervous when one landed on her stick. Grandma and Steven joined in. Mommy, however, is a complete wimp about things flying around and landing on me so I was perfectly content to play photographer.

After seeing all of the animals and getting a bite to eat, everyone was pretty tired. Cade was asleep shortly after we got out of the parking lot and Ella was dozing in and out. Cole, on the other hand, got his second wind. The whole way home he kept saying goodbye to all of the animals. "Bye Lion". "Bye Ebra (zebra)". "Bye Guin (penguin)". Bye Roo (kangaroo)". And when he would finish with his list, he would start over again. I love that he is starting to repeat things we say and that is vocabulary is growing.

Great day, wasn't it! We'll have to go again next year, but only if the weather is cool. It was perfect!
